A cheerful heart is good medicine – proven

Two children laughing

Don’t you jut love it when science catches up to the Bible?

Almost 3 000 years ago Solomon wrote these words: “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength” (Prov 17:22)

Studies have shown that hearty laughter decreases stress hormones, relieves physical tension, increases blood flow and immune cells and even has an anti-inflammatory effect that protects the heart muscles from the damaging effects of heart disease.  Laughter releases endorphins, our own natural feel-good hormones and has a similar effect on our brains to taking anti-depressants. When we laugh together, these same hormones promotesin us a sense of togetherness and safety. **

Truly God has made us in such an amazing way and He has designed us to to have fun and laugh – a lot!

When I look at my life at the moment, I fully realize that I am just too serious. I am really challenged to make an effort to laugh more… to tickle my kids, to laugh at my own mistakes, to give joyful appreciation when someone else accomplishes something, to laugh with someone when they receive good news.

What about you?
